4 winners and 5 losers from the weirdest night in NBA free agency

Another day in free agency is in the books and a week has gone by since the process began. At this point, we know where all the power players are — the big trades and acquisitions all appear to be complete for now.

There were no huge names moving on Thursday, but a lot happened. We saw a lot of patience early on from teams, but Thursday night was a spending frenzy.

At some point, all of the big fish are going to go away. The talent well always dries up. But teams still have tons of money to spend and lots of cap space to fill. On Thursday, they did. Here are the winners and losers.

Minnesota signed Taj Gibson on Sunday on a two year, $28 million deal. It’s the second player that Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau has brought in that he coached just a few years ago in Chicago, the first of course being Jimmy Butler.

I don’t necessarily love Gibson’s fit — last season was his worst in several years, and he can’t space the floor when Karl-Anthony Towns is in the post, a place where he dominates — but boy, the Timberwolves won’t be fun to play against next year. They still definitely need a shooting wing, and those have mostly flown off the market at this point. Still, at least Thibodeau knows what to expect from his new roster.

Who’s next from the 2014 Bulls? Can we get Carlos Boozer to Minnesota? Mike James? KIRK HINRICH REUNION, LET’S GO. (On a serious note, someone tell the Plain Cheap Jerseys Timberwolves Real Madrid Cheap Jerseys that they shouldn’t sign Derrick Rose. Don’t do it.)

Three reasons Patriots won their fifth Super Bowl title

The Patriots looked dead in the water, trailing 28-3 in the third quarter, before pulling off the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.

So, how’d the do it? They rallied behind Tom Brady’s Super Bowl-record 466 passing yards as the Patriots took advantage of Atlanta mistakes and had a huge, clutch play by Julian Edelman.

“You never think that you would have a son who is going to the Super Bowl, and in his hometown,” Nelson Rowe told Houston television station KTRK.

Bennett visited his Houston-area high school this week, popping into Alief Taylor High School on Tuesday.

“This is where I started playing football,” said Bennett, who also played collegiately at Texas A&M. “It all started here. This is where my roots are. This is where it all began.

“It would be awesome to bring a trophy home. I don’t have to go anywhere. … The stars don’t align like this all the time, and they’re aligned.”

Matthews is the son of Hall of Fame lineman Bruce Matthews, who went to 14 Pro Bowls while playing for the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans but never won a Super Bowl. Winning a title for his dad would “be pretty special” for Jake.

“He was on a lot of good teams for many years, and the Plain Cheap Jerseys fact Order Cheap Jerseys that he only made it to one, and came up that short — yeah, this is a big opportunity,” Jake Matthews said. “If he couldn’t win one, I think he would be happy that I won one.”
